The Top Ten Books of 2012
The New York Times' editors chose the best books for 2012 naming Chris Ware's Building Stories, a kind of graphic novel, as the year's number two book.
Building Stories puts a boxful of anecdotes at your fingertips, stories you have to tease out from pamphlet's and puzzles, game boards and leaflets.
This "erector set" of ideas was specifically designed to foil any attempt at reading on an iPad or computer. The reader has to unsnarl the memories of a few different protagonists to deduce their story as presented by a few collected bits and pieces.
Do you have a scrap book or memory box at home? If you went through the memories you've collected--old newspaper clippings, tickets to sporting events or movies, dried flowers from the prom--what story do you think the stuff of your memories would tell?

Chris Ware's Building Stories seems like an interesting book to read. It is different than any other book. By looking at the picture, Ware's book could also be a comic book. Each box has a different picture that tells a story, much like a comic book without dialogue. Looking at the picture, you could tell what the story is about. The pictures are well drawn with color. I could see why The New York Times chose Chris Ware's Building Stories as the number two book of 2012. His book tells a story without dialogue, making his readers think about what is happening. It makes us put our thinking caps on as we read the story. Looking at the old pictures at my home, makes me remember the time of the picture and all of the great memories that have been made. A memory box that I can create for my future children is a box that will be full of pictures and anything that has a special meaning to it. Once my children grow old this memory box would be nice to go grow through and remember all the great memories.
ReplyDeleteI think this kind of story is pretty funny, because the author uses a lot of colorful picture to tell the story without dialogue. When I was young, I created a box with a lot of cut pictures that I cut from magazines, newspapers, and books. Some of them were just cute animals; the others were pictures that could record my childhood. I would like to create a memory box for my kid that collects all my pictures from child to grow up, the reason that I want to create a memory box for them is because these pictures could tell my children about his or her mother’s life, and help my kids know me better.

Nowadays, more and more people like reading book from electronic products. the book of Chris Ware's Building is a kind of graphic novel, I think it can attract more people. have a scrap book or memory box at home, that is a secret for myself. There are a lot of things from my past time. This memory is very important for me. Because when I see it, I will remember some interesting and it can help me to mark some special things for myself. Now, I think we can use graphic novel to record the new memory, it can include our family, friendship or lover.
ReplyDeletethis is a nice cartoon, it describe a women's day. in a rainy day, the raindrop through the leaf drop on the ground. the weather like the women's mood, a little bit sad. but during the long rainy walk, when she arrived her flower shop, her mood make big change, the light turn on, the whole room's flower appear to her, it like spring, the warm weather and abundant color, make people forget all the trouble. she become invigorating, star to clean this flower room and watering the flower. clear up each flowerpot make them stand orderly. all the thing is done, her mood is really become so good then with the nice mood she start to make up and ready to welcome the customers. ready to welcome the nice day.
ReplyDeleteAs of now I do not have a memory box but if I did it would probsly include things like concert tickets, movie tickets or like quotes from my favorite songs. It may aslo include picture of family and friends. I would choose to put concert tickets becasue I really enjoy listening to music and so a good concert is always the best, especially when the artist really knows how to put on a good show. I also would include photos becasue my family is really close and so we spend alot of time togehter going on trips and just hanging out with eachothers and the same thing with my friends.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter made a scrapbook at a Girl Scout meeting one day. This Building Stories is very interesting because we can make stories from all the square boxes. Like a scrapbook, there are various pieces of memories in one page. We can cinnect and match, and make our own stories. This reminds me of rubic cube. There are numerous way of making stories and I love that innovative idea.
ReplyDeletei like the idea of combining different apsects of your life and creating one big picture are. I have loads of scrapbooks photo albums, movie stubs and etc. i believe if i was to create one of these picture, it would explain where ive been and how ive grown as a person. The picture would show my personality alog with different ways to describe me such as fun , adventurous, loving and etc. Every little square would represent another piece of me.
ReplyDeleteHaving a collection of different perspectives on your on life is a wonderful idea because it is fun looking back on memories. When I look back on my photos of the past, I remember that I use to go camping with my family every summer at Memorial Park. I also remember how I played hid-and-seek with my cousins at my grandparents' house. These mementos are my cherished memories that I cannot and will not throw away because they are objects that tell a story about my past. It puts a smile on my face when I go back to look at them, and it should be the same for others.
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of funny to combining different apsects of your life and make it into a big picture. however I don't think I can make one big picture like that. Because most of my collection is artbook from games or comics, "donjinse" which is like a comics print by a fans, with a different story, and gundam model. well yes you can make a big picture about my life from it, but it will be a picture without me. this makes me wonder, should I start taking photos from myself?
ReplyDeleteKeeping memories whether it be pictures or movie tickets is a smart idea.Personally,I keep all movie tickets, concert tickets, pictures, items from fun times I have had that I do not want to forget.I usually,when I see these items, I think back on fun times I have had, and what I did , and why I do not want to forget them.I even still have my prom cuff,It was $14 dollars! And I was not going to throw it away, I loved my prom night, I went with my first boyfriend, and first love and had the best time!Since prom, I have started to date another guy, my friend of 14 years, during the holidays,I will most likely give him a box of memories and fun times or dates we have.In the end, it is a good thing to keep memories , good memories in tact , whether it be from pictures or items.It is good to look back at the good times in your life once in a while.
