Is that a Giant Toilet?

Ummm, yes it certainly looks like one.

Mr. Crapper may have invented the first flush toilet, but he probably never suspected that we would be playing basketball in one.

That's righ sports fans, the Golden State Warriors' new arena may just be a giant commode. I know we want to put our favorite sport's heroes on a throne, but this may be taking things too far.

Apparently, the plans for the new stadium were getting too expensive so they were flushed for new renderings.

How much money do you think the architectural firm charged for this rendering of San Francisco's latest sports' arena? SF could have just called Moen or Price Pfister and enlarged one of their commode schematics.

Can you hear the announcers now? Thankfully, there is no one named John on the team.

What does this post have to do with college, careers, comics, or writing? I'm not sure . . . but it sure is strange that architects with an advanced degree came up with a gigantic toilet of an arena.

What other household appliance do you think would make a good arena?

  1. It really is perplexing how the architects didn’t realize or didn’t care what their renderings looked like. I think this situation is similar to not naming your kids something that will get them ridiculed as they grow up. Professional sports teams are a business in addition to the entertainment they provide which means that their ultimate goal is to attract customers who want to come watch their product. I’m not so sure you’re going to draw many people who aren’t diehard fans of the team to come watch a basketball game in a toilet bowl shaped arena. Another problem of the design is that it would have a trickle down affect to the players where they would face ridicule of other team’s players and fans about their home arena. Plus, just think of how the team would be perceived if they were a team that toiled in the bottom of the standings. The toilet jokes would never end. I suppose the only advantage of that design would be that the marketing department of the Warriors could market a match up with another last place team as the toilet bowl.

  2. The new San Francisco Arena will be the new upcoming tenants of the Golden State Warriors in 2017. The architecture of this area from plain side viewing of a person point of view seem to be nice and beautiful building, but as you see a glance of a worms eyes view it, it’s a toilet. I would not mind if this architect guy designs it to be a toilet. Like who is going to know it might be in that shape unless you are in a helicopter. In fact I would not even care about the structure from the outside but as long the inside looks good I am alright with that. I work at Oracle Arena with the Golden State Warriors. And this month or next will be my 3rd season working with them. Oracle Arena is pretty small and I do not seem to mind. What I care is the environment inside, knowing if it is safe, nice, and clean. Unlike its neighboring tenants O.co Coliseum. I hate that coliseum! Forgive my language but shitty and disgusting there. Anyways back with the arena, to my guess on why it might look like a toilet is probably the architect(s) wanted to be creative in a way. Plus it’s in San Francisco where it is home to weird people I encounter and its unusual art there. As an artist like this architecture, you want to be out of the box and think of something creative and not such a boring building. Earlier, I said I worked at Oracle Arena and O.co coliseum. I also worked with arena is San Francisco as well like AT&T Park home of the San Francisco Giants and Candlestick Park where it used to be the San Francisco 49ers but now moved to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara where I work there as well. Nonetheless, with a new arena like Levi’s its kind of square looking like an open box. Maybe the architecture(s decided that it was too generic with an oval football stadium look. Overall, what I think is that if you have a degree in architectural stuff, you are free to come up with any design you might feel like it and create a piece of art that would be yours and wow the people around. With the plans of the stadium I do not have a guess why they have been changing it up. I read news that they have blueprints up and ready but not sure why it would be too expensive, like what is there that is expensive beside the arena itself? On the other hand, when I notice the toilet structure and that it will be the new home for the 2017 Golden State Arena. My first reaction is that and if you watch the Warriors. Stephen curry and Klay Thompson are what the fans called them the “Splash Brothers” because they make a good team couple with amazing moves. And to me with the toilet structure I just think that when they make am move and score they’d be splashing inside the toilet. Get it? If not never mind and forget I said that.

  3. In the recent most years, the Golden State Warriors have gained national attention by basketball fans alike. Whether it be their likability, their future superstars in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, or just by how well the team has done these past few seasons, the Warriors are back on the NBA map. But in the coming years, the local NBA team may be at the center of national attention for reasons far more embarrassing than they would like. This is due to the genius architect who decided to draw out the new Warriors arena set to open up for the 2017-2018 season like a common household appliance, the beloved toilet bowl. How and why the architect chose to draw up on the blueprints that very shape is beyond me, but only time will tell if this plan pays off or not. Using basic common sense, this idea may not fly well with the Warriors or the City of San Francisco. It does not seem likely that San Francisco will want to resemble that of a toilet, because that would be giving a great city a bad look to it. You would think that an architect that does these jobs for a living would at the very least pick a better design, such as the basic dome-shaped arena that is very appealing the eye. Although time will only tell if this design stays the same or not, if for some reason this plan holds up, at the very least, (to be punny) the Warriors's can ride the label "Splash Brothers" for years and years to come.

  4. The arena for the Golden State Warriors is definitely one that will go down in history, for jokes or legend who knows? The architects for this arena could have picked a different landscape for this arena but this one was chosen for a reason. While they will experience millions of laughs and questions about the choice of design who is to say that it won't work in their favor? Sometimes the thing people make the most fun about is why they are remembered. I doubt people will forget where the warriors play and how their arena is shaped. I do think they could have picked another appliance like a bowl or washer machine to catch more positive remarks. The toilet bowl will get attention and in the world of media that is all they are looking for. Positive or negative they just want to be seen and know that they have the eyes on them. The Warriors season won't be effected by the shape of their arena so if the focus is truly on basketball, which it should be, then it will all work out in the end.

  5. I had no idea that the new Golden State Warriors arena was shaped like a toilet until this little article. And quite frankly it's really hilarious to think about. A basketball arena shaped like a toilet that people use to go to the bathroom to do their business. It's basically calling the team and what the whole team stands for as crap. I'm no Golden State fan but I am a Stephen Curry fan and I would be quite upset if the arena that I play for, the fans that I play for, the city that I play was mocked by the arena that I play in. If this toilet arena gets out to the rest of the nation there will be some serious withdraws in the upper management of the team.

  6. When I first see this design that first thing I thought about was the parking. Like where do you park? But after you saying that it looks like a giant toilet I started to laugh. But when I think it comes from the design there is no color in the diagram and maybe the design will have lights going all the way around or something. I don’t know why they will design a stadium like this but maybe it only looks like a big toilet from an aerial view.
I think the firm charged San Francisco a lot of money because of its location but come on, that is the best design you can come up with?
Other household items that they should make a stadium out of are a swifter duster for like a tennis court, or a microwave for an arena.

  7. The Golden State Warriors are moving to San Francisco defiantly for reasons that include better scenery, more money, and for appeal to the other side of the Bay. Do I think that this design was on purpose? No I don't, but I do find it hysterical! However with the season the Warriors are putting together this year its safe to say that they are "the shit!" With superstars on their team like Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, and Andrew Bogut it would be safer to make that stadium in the shape of a microwave because of their ability to heat up quickly! Regardless of their designs the Warriors are, and will continue to have, a promising future.

  8. I find it very amusing that the arena resembles a toilet bowl so much because I can only begin to think of all the jokes and puns that will be made during the games now. Or jokes and puns in general, like Shawns post above ^ haha. I am curious to see if they will continue to keep this design for the stadium once they have realized or put more thought into it. I am not a Golden State Warrior fan so I would like to say that it is only fair that they play in a giant toilet! There is also the possibility of how they will decorate the outside which could take away a lot of the toilet aspect.

  10. Everything everyone wants to do these days is get attention. If it's not getting attention on top of your news feed it's not hot. I feel like celebrities feed off attention that's what keeps them moving forwarded. I think the stadium shaped as a toilet bowl was just to get attention and to attract more people to actually go and check it out for themselves. This could connect to school today because media plays a big role in everything we do. They are probably going to keep designing weird stuff just to get attention from people, that's what they live for.

  11. I think it's interesting because I never thought of any arena shape or size I would just go to see the game, and be down with until reading this post I actually thought about it and it makes sense the stadium does look like a big giant toilet. Some designers don't actually think about about but others do for the fame. I'm not a really fan of much teams so it doesn't really bother me that they are playing in a toilet.

  12. I believe the new arena that the Warriors are coming up with are interesting. Being a longtime Warriors fan, we had too watch the games inside a very old arena, the Oracle Arena. Even thought the new arena that they are coming up with in San Francsico looks like a toilet, it would definitely be an upgrade over the Oracle Arena. It would be a place where we would still want to watch our favorite teams basketball games. It makes it a big market for the Golden State Warriors because current NBA players would want too play in a nicer arena in a big city.

  13. Why would an architect ever design an arena in the shape of a toilet? It does not make any sense to me. They are going to be payed a lot of money for this design, so you would think they would come up with something that looks nice and doesn’t look like a household appliance. Stadiums in my opinion should look prestigious, really big, and should be appealing to the eye. It shouldn’t be something that people would talk badly about or laugh at. If I were a part of the people in charge of overseeing all the designs I would not approve this one.

  14. I believe that the creation of this stadium is very unique and interesting. I see nothing wrong with this arena, just because it looks like a toilet from the outside doesn't in reality mean it is one. I am pretty sure that the creation to this stadium has a lot of meaning behind it and and much talent and work done on it from the outside and inside. The importance of making this building as the engineer is that you dedicate yourself and do what you believe is best and unique, and by the looks of it that is exactly what this engineer did. This stadium may seem to many as a toilet looking stadium but there is a lot of reasoning behind it. To those who complain about the stadium being a toilet it is important to notice that after all this is set and done the new stadium was made to upgrade from the prior one and benefit the fans and players. There is plenty of money invested into this new stadium and that is why I believe that it looking like a toilet doesn't matter and that this stadium will have many ungraded features that will benefit many and that the engineer behind this would have done a great job with this new Arena.

  15. It looks definitely like a toilet! I don't know how the fans of Warriors feel when they are walking into a building like these.
But on one hand, it is just a rough draft and we don't know how would it really look like yet, it may be very cool when it comes to real, or it may change to a different design when it start to build.
On the other hand, there are strange things called art. I remember seeing a piece of news saying that an artist bought a toilet from a department store and stick it on the ground and then bring it to a show. Who knows? Some one likes it, some one pays for it.
