And the Peeps just keep on coming . . .

I went to an outdoor performance of Shakespeare's Macbeth--awesome production by the way--and it reminded me of another strangely awesome Shakespeare, or rather Shakespeep, production.

And without further ado, here's Peepeo and Juliet by Plain Jane.

  1. I thought this was really funny. I remember reading Romeo and Juliet in middle school and this just about sums it up. It was very weird to see something that is classic being portrayed by peeps cursing. I found it really enjoyable.

  2. I really liked reading the real Romeo and Juliet in high school. Seeing these little peeps cursing made it not enjoyable. It didn't tell the story at all. I feel like it was such a diminishing story, making fun of Shakespeare. If poor Shakespeare saw this, he'd be extremely upset about how stupid they made his romantic story sound. I thought it was quite ridiculous.

  3. It is very funny to see a modern humorous take on the Shakespearian play Romeo and Juliet. When I read this play in middle school, I didn't really understand fully what was going on. I guess this would be a very good hilarious way to explain to someone what it would be like if Romeo and Juliette lived in 22nd century.

  4. I thought this image was very funny because of the harsh and modern vocabulary used it in. I remember reading Romero and Juliet in high school, and I wished they had this instead of the actual book because reading Shakespeare was very difficult.

  5. I thought this image was very cute and a little funny, considering that Shakespeare has dramatic comedy in his plays. I read Romeo and Juliet in my honors English class, I also participated in a skit that had to be done for that class. I got the concept of the book but when I actually read it, I just got confused.

  6. Reading this in high school was a torment with the difficult old English language. Then, at the end it seems like pages of difficult reading just to sum of that they were in forbidden love and they die.I thought these images played by peeps was really funny because it really sums up the whole story in ten slides. Plus the cursing and the small quotes just make it funny and really modern for people to understand.

  7. I thought this was super funny and different as soon as i saw it. My experience with Shakespere in high school was always positive because i had teachers that really went the extra mile to make learning it easy. I think this is a really creative way to teach Shakespere's literature to students because it's in a language they can understand and its humourous.

  8. This was a much better read than the actual play. i'm not saying Shakespere was a bad writer or anything. He was just hard to understand sometimes, or for me most of the time. And when we read this in high school, my teacher did not really make it exciting for us. She just had us read it in class, with the occasional fight scene acted out by fellow classmates. This peep version of "Romeo and Juliet" was much more entertaining and captivated me to finish it. and much shorter which is another plus.

  9. I have read romeo and Juliet and consequently have watched the movie as well. I think this interpretation of romeo and Juliet was more entertaining and funny. This parody gets to the point of the book. It summarizes all of the main events and its very funny. I wouldn't however recommend this as an alternative to reading the book.

  10. This is so funny. I would say a very short accurate summary of the book, using modern day language. It's simple enough for anyone to understand.

  11. if romeo and Juliet was really like this i would die of laughter in class not expecting to see this as a blog had me laughing while Professor Ripely was talking. If the play was as interesting as the peep version i would definitely pay more attention to Shakespeare pieces. It hit all the key points in the movie in two seconds it could of showed when romeo died.

  12. Apparently this play about peeps was posted on July 15th, 2011. Peeps would be hard to find that time of year.

  13. Apparently they just made another remake movie of this play. Interesting

  14. This is so funny, that I cannot stop laughing at this very moment. I wonder how they came up with the idea to use Peeps to recreate the very powerful Romeo and Juliet? Did they have extra Peeps lying around after Easter? Was this the only means they could afford for staging and props? Either way it is really cute and funny!

  15. 1. Take entire play
    2. Gather into a one foot, by one foot, by one foot cube
    3. Insert in microwave
    4. Set microwave on high for one to two minutes
    5. Enjoy

No disrespect to Shakespeare, microwaving peeps is just more fun in my opinion.

  16. This is my favorite picture of the peeps and if it's taking jabs at Romeo and Juliet then even better. Personally, that is my least favorite play of Shakespeare so I really just do not care for it. Anyway, on to the peeps. I have to say, that I do not like those either. My apologize if you do but I do not favor marshmallows in general. I have never liked them, for as long as I remember. When I was little, my mum and dad would buy these Russian chocolates that were quite large. They were covered in chocolate, with a chocolate cookie on the bottom, and on top of the cookie was a marshmellow covered in the chocolate. My brother loved these and ate them with no problem but I would go and hide and pick off the chocolate and only eat that. Fortunately, my mom would do the little puffy marshmallow some justice and eat it. On the other hand she insisted on accusing me when she ate the middle of the oreo cookie and left the chocolate cookies smooched together in the cookie jar.

  17. Some people may find this witty and hilarious, but unfortunately I did not find this version of Romeo and Juliet. I have read the book and even seen the movie, but this version just confused me. I just thought it took out the bittersweet beauty in the originaI versions. If anything it only made me crave Peeps. I am probably going to look for some at the student store later.

  18. That was unexpected. I would have never expected them to curse in some slides and made it a joke. It did had some type kind of humor, but it feels like it was making fun of the play then actually saying what it was based off a love story. In high school I have seen the play and know what happens. I thought it was trying to be creative by using images and peeps to teach Shakespeare literature in a different perspective. Personally I liked the old version of Romeo and Juliet.

  19. I found these pictures really entertaining because of the content in the speech bubbles and the fact that they are using peeps to represent Romeo and Juliet. It was really creative because I did not think anyone would want to recreate the play using marshmallows. It is basically a parody of the play and a good laughter for those who actually know the play.
